Midwest Furfest 2010 Hotel FAQ

E-mail Print PDF

For what days is the room block available?
The Midwest FurFest Room Block is available from Wednesday, November 17, 2010 through Monday, November 22, 2010. If you wish to stay at the Hyatt before or after those dates, contact the Hotel Liaison at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Why should I reserve in the convention hotel block? What does this get me?
One of the reasons why conventions are able to receive their function space for a low price or for free is because they sign a contract stating that a certain number of sleeping rooms will be sold during the convention. Because we don't have to spend the money on function space, we are able to spend that money on things for our attendees, like Con Suite, Fursuit Lounge, and A/V equipment, for example. Additionally, we use the count of rooms sold each year to help us negotiate for better hotel room rates when we negotiate new hotel contracts.

What is the hotel tax rate in Rosemont?
The hotel tax rate in Rosemont is 13%, so with tax a standard sleeping room costs approximately $140 per night.

What is the minimum age to reserve a room at the hotels?
The minimum age to reserve a room at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare for Midwest FurFest is 18 years old.

What is the difference between a Business Plan room and a regular room?
A Business Plan room is identical to a regular sleeping room but also includes the following amenities:

  • Free breakfast for one person
  • Free phone access (including long distance calls within the continental US, Canada, and Hawaii)
  • Free wireless Internet access
  • Free newspaper delivered to your room (Monday - Friday)
  • One shirt or blouse pressed per day (dry cleaning excluded)
  • One bottle of water per day

What is the Regency Club Lounge? Does the Business Plan allow me access to the Regency Club Lounge?
The Regency Club Lounge is a private lounge just off the Hyatt lobby that is open to Hyatt Regency Club members. They serve snacks and complimentary cocktails and offer a relaxed and refined environment for their members. It is not included with the Business Plan package; however members of the convention may purchase access to the Regency Club Lounge for $30/day. Please see the Hyatt Front Desk for more information.

What charges does the hotels place on my credit card when reserving?
The Hyatt does not place charges on your credit card when reserving and no charges will be made to your credit card before you check in. However, if you fail to cancel your room by 3 PM the day before your stay, you will be charged for one night’s stay plus tax.

What if my credit card expires before the check-in dates?
If your credit card expires before your check-in date, simply call the Hyatt when your new card arrives and update the reservation to match your new card.

I just tried to reserve my room and am being told that the room type I want is not available for the nights I wish to reserve. What should I do?
Don't panic. THE HYATT IS NOT SOLD OUT! The most likely problem is that all of the rooms of your desired type in our room block have been sold for that night. Contact the Hotel Liaison at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and he will call the Hyatt and expand the room block.

Will there be fursuit floors available at the Hyatt?
Due to overwhelming popularity of fursuit floors (in the past, almost 1/4 of the total sleeping rooms were requested to be on the fursuit floors) and the layout of the Hyatt, there will not be any fursuit floors.

I am a smoker and would like a smoking room, what should I do?
The Hyatt Regency O'Hare, like the entire Hyatt hotel chain, is a smoke-free hotel. Unfortunately we are not able to assist in finding hotels that offer smoking rooms.

What can I do to receive a Rollaway bed in our room? Is there a fee for one?
Rollaway beds are available for a one-time charge of $25. If you would like to request a rollaway bed,  please include that information when making the reservation. If you need a Rollaway bed after you have checked in, please call the Guest Request line at 56 to request one. Please remember that only a limited number of Rollaway beds are available. Note that because of Fire Code, rollaway beds can only be used in King rooms and suites; rollaway beds are not available for Double rooms.

I see that the Hyatt is taking a deposit at check-in, why is this?
All guests checking in will need to provide a credit card, debit card or cash to hold for room charges and incidentals.

  • If you are using a credit card, the card will be charged the amount on the room folio upon check out.
  • If you using a debit card, there will be a 'hold or pending authorization' placed on the card immediately upon check-in for the total room and tax for the duration of the stay, plus $50 per day for incidentals. Upon check out, the exact funds are taken out, and the 'held' funds are reimbursed. Please note it may take up to a week to reimburse the 'held' funds.
  • If you will be paying cash, you will need to provide the room and tax payment for the duration of the stay upon check in, plus $50 additional per day for incidentals.

Midwest FurFest does not recommend the use of debit cards when checking into hotels, ever.

Does the Hyatt allow pets?
The Hyatt does not allow pets.

Can we put up signs on our doors?
Yes, you can, but only using the doorknob hangers that are provided in every Registration bag. Signs are not allowed to be taped to any part of the door, doorjamb, or walls at all. Any material that is found to be inappropriate and/or offensive will be confiscated and brought down to Operations to pick up later. Please note that any damage done to doors by adhesives or other methods used to post signs will be billed to the room occupants.

What if we generate a lot of trash in our hotel room?
If you contact the hotel operator, they will send someone up with trash bags for you.

How many people may sleep in our room?
Due to life safety issues, the Rosemont Fire Marshall requires no more than 4 people sleeping at a time in a standard sleeping room. Please be aware that Rosemont is extremely strict about this requirement.

Is there Internet access in the hotel? What are the charges?
The Hyatt has wired and wireless internet available in the sleeping rooms and wireless in the lobby. Internet access is not available in the function space. The wireless internet is $9.95 per day, and is provided by T-Mobile.

Is there a charge for parking?
Although the Hyatt normally charges for parking, members of Midwest FurFest may park for free in the Hyatt's parking garage, and have complimentary in and out privileges.

Can I sleep in my car/RV/Semi while at the convention?
No. The Hyatt does not allow people to sleep in their cars at the hotel. If you have a RV or semi you may be able to sleep in your semi or RV. Please call the Hyatt in advance to make sure they will have space for you.

I heard there was a problem last year with people reserving a double room but getting a king room instead. Will that happen again this year?
We are in a new hotel this year; we will be working closely with the Hyatt to try to prevent this problem from happening again. Remember, though, that every hotel in the United States will always tell you that although they will guarantee a reservation they cannot guarantee the availability of a particular room type. Always have a Plan B, just in case!

How do I ship items to the Hyatt Regency O'Hare?
Items shipped to the Hyatt for Midwest FurFest cannot arrive before Tuesday, November 16, 2010. Anything shipped to the Hyatt must have the following information on the address label:
