From South, East and Southeast of Chicago (via I-80, I-90, I-55, or I-57)
We do not recommend driving through downtown Chicago during rush hour! This is typically from 6:00 AM - 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM - 7 PM Monday – Friday.
If you are driving during rush hour:
Take I-294 (the Tri-State Tollway) north around Chicago. Take the exit for I-90/O’Hare International Airport. Bear to the right toward O’Hare Airport, then take the leftmost toll booth that you can. IMMEDIATELY after the toll booth, take the left exit to River Road. At the bottom of the exit ramp, turn right. Go 0.4 miles and turn left onto Bryn Mawr Ave. You can pull in front of the Hyatt Regency O’Hare, or you may park in the parking garage first. To park in the parking garage, continue to the end of Bryn Mawr Ave. and turn left to the parking booth. If the gate is open, drive in, otherwise take a ticket.
If you are driving outside of rush hour:
Take I-90/I-94 through downtown Chicago. Stay on I-90 toward O’Hare International Airport. Take Exit 78, I-190/O’Hare Airport, then take Exit 1, River Road. At the bottom of the ramp, turn right and go 0.3 miles and then turn left onto Bryn Mawr Ave. You can pull in front of the Hyatt Regency O’Hare, or you may park in the parking garage first. To park in the parking garage, continue to the end of Bryn Mawr Ave. and turn left to the parking booth. If the gate is open, drive in, otherwise take a ticket.
From North or West of Chicago (via I-90)
Take I-90 East toward Chicago. Take the exit for O’Hare Airport/I-294 South. Bear to the right toward O’Hare Airport. After the toll booth, briefly merge onto I-190 West then take the second exit, for Mannheim Road South. Follow the exit ramp up, stay in the right lane, and immediately take the exit for I-190 East. Go 0.8 miles and take Exit 1B, River Road South. At the bottom of the ramp, stay in the left lane. Once you are on River Road, immediately get in the left lane and turn left onto Bryn Mawr Ave. You can pull in front of the Hyatt Regency O’Hare, or you may park in the parking garage first. Notes About Traffic
- Rush hours in Chicago are typically from 6:00 AM - 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM - 7 PM. This doesn't mean that traffic can't back up at other times, unfortunately. Traffic is heavy during these times and it is especially bad on Fridays. It helps to keep a close eye on traffic and know your routes.
- BRING A MAP! Sure, Mapquest and Google Maps are OK for general directions, but seriously: go to Wal Mart and drop a couple bucks for a good road atlas.
- Traffic reports are available every ten minutes (on the 8's) on WBBM-AM (780 AM) and continuously on Channel 151 on Sirius and Channel 217 on XM. Here's a handy glossary to decipher just how far it is from The Circle to the Junction, and whether you have to worry if traffic is slow from Mannhein to the Post Office.
- Tolls are a fact of life in the Chicago area. You will need cash! The tollway accepts IPASS and EZ-Pass, though.
